Canberra Business Chamber Wellington NZ Trade Mission

4–6 June 2025 | Canberra Business Chamber Delegation

EMA Advisory’s executive team – Directors Emma Haskard and Matthew Bautz, together with General Manager Kerrin Andrews travelled to Wellington as part of a Canberra Business Chamber initiative, engaging with leaders across New Zealand’s defence, security, and commercial sectors.

Highlights from the week
  • Strategic engagement with the New Zealand Ministry of Defence, exploring opportunities arising from the newly released Defence Capability Plan and its $12B investment pipeline.
  • A collaborative session with the Business Chamber of New Zealand, focusing on deepening trans-Tasman partnerships and shared commercial opportunities.
  • Discussions with leading New Zealand commercial law firms, identifying avenues for future cooperation and joint delivery models.

These conversations provided a valuable platform to share EMA’s innovative frameworks – including our Procurement as a Capability (PaaC) approach – and to strengthen cross-Tasman collaboration.

Celebrating regional partnership

The delegation concluded with a memorable evening celebrating HMAS Canberra’s Freedom of Entry into Wellington, attending the official cocktail event alongside representatives from the Royal Australian Navy, Royal New Zealand Navy, and Pacific partners.

Looking aheadOur time in Wellington was marked by meaningful dialogue, exciting momentum, and new partnerships that will continue to grow. EMA Advisory extends sincere thanks to the Canberra Business Chamber for hosting and facilitating this initiative.

Until next time, Wellington, kia ora and thank you!

SIAA Southern Space Conference August 2024

Our Principal Consultant for Space Capabilities Kelly Barlow moderated the panel discussion on ‘Australia’s Defence Export Controls and Existing Legal Frameworks – Impacts to the Space Sector today at the Space Industry Association of Australia Southern Space 2024 today.

Very interesting discussion on the impacts that export controls (and legislative amendments more generally) can have on our Australian businesses. Always great to hear from Jeremy Hallett who has lived the journey of running a space business amongst the layers of regulation.

The EMA team, as part of our Community Projects, prepared dinner for the families of sick children, who stay in the amazing Ronald McDonald House in Garran, Canberra.

The service and sense of community provided by RMHC is outstanding and the staff and volunteers who keep the place running should be recognised and applauded. Thank you for the opportunity to play a very small role in helping out the community.
